About Us



When Jorge Sanchez first came to New York City from his hometown of Puebla Mexico he slept underneath a kitchen table of a kind stranger he met in Manhattan. He worked several jobs and built a taco cart out of scrap metal which he found on the local streets. When the line at the corner of 135th St. and Broadway stretched around the block he knew he was onto something big.


The first Taco Mix restaurant opened in East Harlem in 1991. Today Taco Mix is the pride and joy of New York–America’s melting pot. The secret to Jorge’s success has been his creativity in fusing his authentic al pastor tacos with the diverse, global, world-class cuisine of New York City. As Jorge puts it, “Every customer has the right to enjoy our tacos based on their taste preferences.”  


The mission of Taco Mix is to bring joy and unity to the world by combining a Mexican classic alongside other various cultures. Jorge believes we are better together. And the love of great tacos is something we all can agree on.
